Putting it in simple terms, a lined valve is a device that is used to regulate, control and direct the flow of fluids( the term fluids here encompasses gases, liquids, slurries etc. ) through various mechanisms such as opening, closing and obstructing the pre designed passageway. Lined valves are one of the most widely used devices in various industries, with their usage spanning sectors such as petrochemicals, plumbing and many more. Some examples of lined valves that are commonly used are FEP lined butterfly valve, lined ball check valve, PFA lined valves, antistatic lined valves and many more.

Salient features of lined Valves :-
- These are easy to fit and have a long functional life.
- These have optimal resistance to corrosion and abrasion.
- All lined valves are designed to work flawlessly even in adverse weather conditions.
- Valves such as FEP lined butterfly valve, lined ball check valve etc. can easily resist high temperatures and pressure.
- Lined valves are ideal for use in hydraulic, pneumatic, instrumentation and refrigeration applications.
- These require negligible maintenance, making them fit for use in heavy duty applications.

- Balls and spring ( limited to lined valves that are used in high tolerance and high pressure applications)
Types of valves according to their operating positions :-
- Two-port lined valves – These can be shut ( allowing no flow at all), fully opened ( allowing for maximum flow) and partially opened ( allowing for limited and controlled flow). Two port lined valves are commonly used in oil refineries and other areas of the petrochemical industry.
- Three port lined valves – These are majorly used in intersections of two pipes. At these locations, three port lined valves allow the passage of fluid from one pipe while completely inhibiting the fluid passage from the other pipe.
- Four port lined valves – These are differentiated by their body which generally has 4 ports equally spaced around it. Four port lined valves are widely used for the purpose of taking a fluid sample without in any way having adverse effects on the prevalent pressure of the hydraulic system.
